★ Folkmore Roles & Attributes ★

Skills: Kanji is an accomplished tailor, able to alter clothing or make pieces from scratch fabric. He can also mend holes, tears and more. He's a good cook, and a self-taught hand-to-hand fighter using "improvised weaponry" (the boy uses a damn school desk as a weapon at one point). He can also competently ride a bicycle, able to keep up with his moped-licensed friends.
Canon Abilities: After accepting his Shadow, Kanji is capable of summoning his Persona. As I am playing him from just past the True Ending, and assuming the Protagonist does establish a solid bond with him, his Persona grows into its final form, Takeji-Zaiten. Takeji uses strong physical skills and lightning spells, all listed in the provided wiki entry.
Role: Myth
Role Qualities/Attributes: Curved horns that will develop over time, fangs, dark fingernails and maybe an ethereal tail (like one made from a dark purple-colored light, still workshopping). He'll develop a danger sense, nightvision, get himself a spot of extra luck, but his short temper will come with his features becoming temporarily more exaggerated (tail becoming longer, horns becoming more twisted, embers at the back of his throat).
Role Reasoning: Kanji's arc revolved around how he wanted to present himself to others. He thought his downward spiral was what "men" do, what was "manly", and really lost what he really wanted to be. With the help of the Protagonist and the events of the story, Kanji finally realized he didn't need to be like that. However, after the act is dropped, what's left? Who are YOU? While making Kanji a Myth would in a way perpetuate his being "a bad, tough guy", it would give him a kick in the pants to continue bettering himself so that he can look how he does but not be an Actual Bad Person. On top of this, Kanji needs to do a whole hell of a lot of self-actualization and navel gazing to grow more than he needs to go out there and mingle and be some kind of best buddy or popular guy. He has potential to ascend into a Legend depending on how things proceed in Folkmore, but he needs a stronger foundation of the self first and foremost. He has a lot of growing to do.

★ Personality ★

Option 1.

Guy's got a pretty short fuse! Kanji was bullied growing up for his "feminine" hobbies, and the neighborhood always treated him "like a zoo animal". This fed into a defense mechanism where he can shift into a loud, aggressive aspect of his personality mostly to push people away and not bother with those who talk shit about him. He may not have started fights, but he absolutely ended them, especially if it protected someone. This grew in a more positive manner after meeting the Protagonist and the others. He'll still react poorly to insults, or people making terrible assumptions about him. He spent long enough having rumors spread about him to let that crap start again! He needs to practice further patience against others, particularly those with abrasive personalities to further his potential. The challenge will be doing this without the help of his friends.

Kanji is a rather loyal sort. Gaining Kanji's trust nets you a dedicated friend, full stop. He trusts those that accept him, and in turn he gives it his all to make good on your acceptance. Need a partner in battle? He's your guy. He also has no shame in standing up for someone when they're down or need a hand, asking them to sit down and take a damn break already or shouting at a foe when they decide to talk shit about a friend. This was a guy who wrecked an entire biker gang because their noise kept his mom awake!

But deep down, Kanji's a kind and sensitive guy. To craft and to cook- both hobbies that demand some level of self-control- speaks to a level of care Kanji expresses in much "softer" aspects of his life. He finds joy in things like dolls, animals or cute pastries, and even has an immense sweet tooth. While he had to at first keep a lot of things close to his chest, he is improving at speaking his mind on things that leave him feeling vulnerable, an embarrassment for him. He'll point out things that are adorable and soft and how they make him feel, but will struggle with his feelings for someone, something he isn't the least bit subtle about. Overcoming a fear of rejection, something he put up with for nearly half his life, is always an uphill battle.

Now, let's be honest: The boy is dense. He's street smart, but academically, he's not the greatest student. Kanji is sometimes slower to catch on to things than others, much to the frustration of his peers. He gets easily frustrated in his studies. He has no issue asking questions, however, in an attempt to better himself and catch up to everyone else. His grades are even improving! Having people believe in you is a hell of a motivator for self-improvement. He needs to continue to grow in this department for sure, and my chosen role as Myth for him should help with this. It may not give him straight A's, but it should help him pause to think or take the time to notice something and perhaps point things out first.

Lastly, Kanji is impulsive. Kanji is an 'act first, ask questions later' kind of guy. He will usually be the first to charge headlong into a conflict, or the first to shout when something is inherently wrong. As he is learning how much trouble this sometimes causes, Kanji is steadily learning to at least spend a breath putting some thought into the danger he may put himself into. He won't dive headfirst into a suicide mission, but if he thinks he can throw a punch into a situation or trash talk a foe, he does not hesitate. It's a work in progress.
